"Futuristic Dragon" is the eleventh studio album by the British rock band T. Rex. Released in 1976, it was a mix of the band's glam rock style with a futuristic, mystical allure. The album was penned and produced by the band's frontman, Marc Bolan.
Upon its release, it didn't receive much praise from critics. However, it was moderately successful, reaching number 50 on the US Billboard 200 charts. On the UK charts, the album peaked at number 16. Notable singles from the album include "New York City," which became a top 20 hit in the UK, and "Dreamy Lady."
Regarding its background, this album signaled a return to the style of the band's earlier days, showing elements of psychedelic folk which were very prominent in their music during the late '60s. Bolted with the band's characteristic glam rock sound, it gave a refreshing, new sound which was received with mixed reactions.
While "Futuristic Dragon" may not have been T. Rex's most commercially successful album, its unique mix of glam rock, psychedelic folk and futuristic theme formed a one-of-a-kind auditory experience, serving as an important part of T. Rex's discography.
