"Monster" is the fourth studio album by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf, released in November 1969 by ABC Dunhill Records. It marked a significant shift for the band, as it was the first LP to feature new lead guitarist Larry Byrom, replacing Michael Monarch.
Monster is considered Steppenwolf's most political album, addressing pressing issues of the time, including the Vietnam War. The album's themes and lyrics reflect the social unrest and political climate of the late 1960s.
Despite not having a US top-ten hit like their previous albums, Monster produced two singles that charted in the top 40: "Move Over" and the title track "Monster." While the album was more politically charged than their earlier works, it still captured the band's hard rock energy and rebellious spirit.
