Sparks

"Introducing Sparks" is the seventh studio album by the American rock/pop band Sparks. The album was released in 1977 following the duo's return to the United States after their period in the UK with Island Records. Despite the title, "Introducing Sparks" is not the duo's debut album, but their seventh. The title is possibly a sarcastic reference to their commercial obscurity at the time. The band consists of brothers, Ron and Russell Mael, and they formed Sparks in Los Angeles in 1972. Their music is often associated with styles such as glam rock, power pop, and synth-pop. Although not commercially successful in the US, they gained a solid following in the UK. The album was produced by Rupert Holmes and Jeffrey Lesser. It saw Sparks return to the more commercial-sounding AOR genre, following their previous foray into more experimental musical styles. Despite its commercial sound, the album did not perform well on the charts. Despite this, it is considered a landmark album in the Sparks' discography due to its intelligent lyrics and distinctive musical style. Although the sale numbers weren't impressive, it is celebrated by fans and critics for its wit and originality. This album features 10 tracks, each portraying Sparks' unique blend of humor, social commentary, and catchy melodies. Some notable songs from the album include "Occupation," "Those Mysteries," and "Ladies."
