Chicago

"Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits" is the first greatest hits album and the ninth overall album by the American rock band Chicago, released in 1975 by Columbia Records. The compilation features a selection of the band's biggest hits from their early years, spanning from their 1969 debut Chicago Transit Authority to their 1974 album Chicago VII. Notably, it does not include material from Chicago VIII, which had been released just months prior, or tracks from Chicago III, as that album lacked major hit singles. Upon its release, Chicago IX was an immediate commercial success, reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and staying on the chart for 72 weeks. The album was certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA, indicating over five million copies sold. It remains one of the best-selling albums of the band's career. However, despite its popularity in the US, it did not chart in the UK. The album was later reissued by Rhino Records, Chicago's current distributor. Chicago IX remains a key collection of the band's early hits, capturing the essence of their fusion of rock, jazz, and pop, and solidifying their place in the mainstream music landscape.
