Little Feat

"Dixie Chicken" is the third studio album by the American rock band Little Feat, released in 1973. The album marked a significant shift in the band's sound, deploying more of a New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, along with elements of country and folk infused sounds. The band was reconfigured during the making of this album, with original members Bill Payne, Richie Hayward, and Lowell George being joined by Paul Barrere, Kenny Gradney, and Sam Clayton. This new line-up allowed them to experiment with new instruments such as slide guitar and congas, enhancing their Southern rock vibe significantly. The album is most known for its title track, "Dixie Chicken", which has since become a staple in their live shows and arguably their most famous song. Despite its popularity in later years, the album itself didn't chart particularly high upon its release, achieving No. 218 on the Billboard Hot 200. "Dixie Chicken" received a generally positive critical reception, with critics lauding its intricate musicianship and soulful, raw energy. The fusion of diverse American musical styles in the album highlights Little Feat's unique place in rock music history. The album is further characterized by clever, insightful lyrics and the laid-back, yet powerful vocal style of the lead singer, Lowell George.
