Wall of Voodoo

"Happy Planet" is an album by the American new wave band Wall of Voodoo. Released in 1987, the album notably marked the band’s first album without their iconic lead vocalist, Stan Ridgway. Instead, it features the vocals of Andy Prieboy, who stepped into the role after Ridgway departed in 1983. Chas T. Gray and Ned Leukhardt, who played the keyboard and drums respectively, were also members of the band during the creation of this album. The album has 10 tracks, including singles like "Do It Again," "Chains of Luck," and "Far Side of Crazy." It can be characterized by its unique mix of new wave, post-punk, and synth-pop undertones. Although it was not able to reap commercial success at the level of some of their previous works, "Happy Planet" has been acknowledged for its exploration of musical style and Prieboy's vocal performance. As per critical reception, this album has been received with mixed feelings. While the departure of Ridgway had undoubtedly shaken up the band dynamic, Wall of Voodoo was able to produce a diverse album with songs that highlighted Prieboy's vocal range and theatricality. "Happy Planet" was initially published under the label I.R.S. Records, which has been home to a number of new wave bands in the 80s, and later re-published in a digitized format. The album is available on most music streaming platforms and for purchase online.
