Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft

1st Step to Heaven is the seventh studio album by the Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, a German electronic/industrial band. This album marks a distinctive change in the band's sound, shifting towards a more commercial pop-oriented style compared to their earlier, more experimental albums. 1st Step to Heaven was released in 1986, five years after the band initially disbanded. For many fans and critics, the album represented a significant departure from the DAF’s initial aesthetic, trading raw industrial sounds for more mainstream pop-leaning sensibility. The album was recorded in London, and it was the only international language album by DAF where they used English lyrics. Despite its unique approach, it was met with mixed reviews and didn't meet commercial success. The band returned to their German roots after this and continued their experimental streak in the albums that followed. Regardless of its critical reception, 1st Step to Heaven showcases the band's versatility and willingness to explore new musical territories and is an essential piece of their discography.
