"Speak Now World Tour – Live" is the first live album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was released on November 21, 2011, by Big Machine Records. The album consists of two components: a 16-track audio CD and a visual DVD or Blu-ray. The recordings were made during Swift's Speak Now World Tour, which supported her third studio album Speak Now. The live album includes performances from various dates on the tour.
The CD features live versions of most songs from the Speak Now album, excluding "Never Grow Up," "Innocent," and the deluxe edition track "Ours." It also includes three covers: "Drops of Jupiter" (Train), "Bette Davis Eyes" (Kim Carnes), and "I Want You Back" (The Jackson 5). Additionally, Swift's single "Back to December" is performed as part of a medley with OneRepublic's "Apologize" and her own "You're Not Sorry" from her 2008 album Fearless. The DVD or Blu-ray contains bonus performances of Swift's other songs, such as "Our Song," "You Belong with Me," "Fifteen," and "Love Story," along with behind-the-scenes footage, rehearsals, and personal moments from Swift's life.
In Brazil, the album was supported by a digital single of "Long Live," featuring Brazilian singer Paula Fernandes. This version of the song, which included new Portuguese verses, reached the top 10 on Brazil's Brasil Hot 100 Airplay chart.
After releasing Speak Now in October 2010, Swift quickly began the Speak Now World Tour, which ran from February to November 2011. By the end of the year, the album had sold 3.7 million copies, and the tour had attracted 1.3 million attendees. Big Machine Records decided to release a live album to capitalize on the tour’s success. Swift said she wanted to capture the energy of the live shows for herself and her fans, adding that she hoped to look back on it years later and share it with her children.
The live album was announced on September 21, 2011, and released on November 21 in North America, with international releases following shortly after. The album was promoted with a partnership between Swift and American Greetings Corporation, which ran a contest offering copies of the album as prizes. In the U.S., there were exclusive versions available at Walmart and Target. Walmart’s edition came with a promotional CD single of "Ours," while Target’s included bonus DVD material and behind-the-scenes footage. The Brazilian edition featured the new version of "Long Live" with Paula Fernandes, which was released for digital download in January 2012 and peaked at number five on the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay chart.
The album includes 16 tracks on the CD, with a runtime of 79 minutes, and the DVD has 18 performances and a total duration of around two hours. The live album showcases Swift's country-pop style, but with a notable emphasis on pop-rock, as described by music critics. The performances on the DVD include elaborate stage settings, choreography, and costume changes, which add to the spectacle of the concert.
The DVD starts with Swift performing "Sparks Fly" in a golden fringed dress while aerialists hang from the rafters. Other notable moments include Swift singing "Mean" and "Our Song" on a banjitar in front of a porch set, and the performance of "Speak Now" featuring group choreography with backup dancers. For "Fearless," Swift performs a medley of songs including Train's "Hey Soul Sister" and Jason Mraz’s "I'm Yours" on ukulele under a glowing tree. The concert also features emotional moments such as Swift performing "Last Kiss" with her koi fish guitar and "Dear John" while sitting on the stairs. The performance of "Enchanted" is accompanied by ballet dancers, and "Haunted" features dramatic stage effects, with Swift throwing herself at a bell. The concert culminates with the encore of "Long Live," followed by "Fifteen" and "Love Story," with Swift performing "Love Story" on a floating balcony while glitter falls across the venue.
Music critics generally praised the album for showcasing Swift's stage presence, but some found her live vocals to be weak and strained. Speak Now World Tour – Live debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 368,000 copies in the United States as of July 2019. It was also successful internationally, charting in the top 30 in Australia, where it was certified triple platinum, as well as in Canada and Japan.
The album is a celebration of Swift's transition from country artist to global pop star, with her live shows reflecting the evolution of her music and her ability to connect with a diverse audience.
