Cut Copy

"Haiku from Zero" is the fifth studio album by Australian electronic music band Cut Copy, released on September 22, 2017, through Cutters Records and Astralwerks. Produced by Dan Whitford and Ben H. Allen, the album features three singles: "Airborne," "Standing in the Middle of the Field," and "Black Rainbows." With its blend of electronic sounds and introspective lyrics, the album showcases the band's signature style while exploring new sonic landscapes. Cut Copy worked on Haiku from Zero between 2014 and 2016, mainly using online file sharing to collaborate from various locations—Dan in Europe, Tim and Ben in the U.S., and Mitchell in Australia. They reunited in 2015 to record in a studio in Atlanta, Georgia, with producer Ben H. Allen, marking a shift towards a more traditional recording process. In January 2016, the band took a brief hiatus from the album to create an instrumental ambient project, released as January Tape in September 2016. By October, Dan Whitford announced the album was nearly complete. Notably, Haiku from Zero departs from previous albums by omitting interludes between tracks, focusing on a more continuous listening experience.
