"Damage and Joy" is the seventh studio album by Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. Released on 24 March 2017, it was their first album in over 18 years succeeding their 1998 album "Munki".
Produced by lead vocalist Jim Reid and producer Youth, "Damage and Joy" emerges as a culmination of the brothers' Jim and Williams Reid's often turbulent relationship, mirroring an embodiment of the album's title itself. It features re-recordings of previously released songs as well as brand new tracks. With its overall sound, the album showed that the band still had its usual elements of noise pop and alternative rock up its sleeve. It also notably featured guest vocals from the Reid brothers' sister Linda Reid, former Belle & Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell, and Sky Ferreira.
While the album received mixed to positive reviews from critics, it notably represented a band still able to rekindle the spark that won them worldwide acclaim. Critics praised its blend of the band's classic sound with new elements while others found it slightly repetitive. The album signified The Jesus And Mary Chain's indelible mark on the rock music landscape, prolonging their distinct legacy.
