The Jesus And Mary Chain

"Honey's Dead" is the fourth studio album released by the alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. The album came out on March 22, 1992, under the label Blanco y Negro. This album marked a notable change in the band's style, moving away from the softer noise pop of their previous LP and incorporating more aggressive elements of alternative rock and electronic music. The title of the album, "Honey's Dead," is intended as a statement of departure from their earlier musical style, honey being a reference to the nickname of guitarist William Reid's wife; also an indirect reference to their Classic album "Psychocandy." The album's most successful single, "Reverence," attracted a fair bit of controversy for its lyrics and reached number 10 in the UK charts, making it their highest-charting single in their career. Other singles from the album included "Far Gone and Out" and "Almost Gold." "Honey's Dead" was notably successful, and received generally favorable reviews from critics praising its exploration of a harder, more aggressive sound. Hailed as a clear progression in the band's discography, the album has since been recognized as an influential work in shaping the sound of alternative and indie rock in the 1990s. There were originally 12 tracks on the album, but later reissues also included additional tracks. The band for this album consisted of brothers Jim and William Reid, along with a series of session musicians contributing on bass and drums. The album cover, showing legs against a blue background, is seen as iconic and often cited as one of the best album arts from the 1990s.
