Sia

"Colour the Small One" is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Sia, released in January 2004. The album marked a departure from the more upbeat indie-pop sound of her previous work, in favor of a more downtempo, acoustic and minimalist style. In terms of its production, "Colour the Small One" was majorly crafted at Heliocentric Studios, in Rye, England. The album was produced by Jimmy Hogarth, who also contributed his skills as a musician on majority of the record. This release includes several popular songs like "Breathe Me," which notably gained public attention through its placement on the finale of the television show "Six Feet Under". However, the album generally received little label promotion and was unsuccessful in her home market. Following the album's failure, Sia relocated to United States and began to work on her next album, "Some People Have Real Problems". Despite its initial underperformance commercially, "Colour the Small One" was highly praised by many critics for its sophisticated and intimate sound. Sia's complex emotional renderings and her impressive vocal delivery were especially applauded. "Colour the Small One" explores themes of depression, lament, and solace. Sia's songwriting reflects her personal experiences and struggles, making the album a deeply emotional journey for listeners. Despite its somber mood, it remains hopeful and manages to offer comfort through its raw exploration of human emotion.
