"Last Time Around" is the third and final studio album by the Canadian-American folk rock band Buffalo Springfield, released in July 1968. At the time of its release, the band's lineup officially included Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay, Dewey Martin, Bruce Palmer, and Jim Messina. However, the band was essentially disbanded by then, and the album was assembled from previous recordings, some of which dated back up to a year earlier.
Jim Messina served as the album’s producer and mixing engineer, with contributions from Richie Furay. The album was put together to fulfill the band’s final contractual obligation to their label. Notably, the album features contributions from several guest musicians, including pedal steel guitar player Rusty Young, who played a significant role.
By the time Last Time Around was released, the band members had already moved on to other projects. Richie Furay, Jim Messina, and Rusty Young were in the process of forming the country-rock band Poco. Stephen Stills was busy with the formation of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Neil Young was performing with a group known as The Rockets, which would eventually evolve into Crazy Horse. Dewey Martin attempted to revive the Buffalo Springfield name with new members but faced legal action from Stills and Young, which prevented him from doing so. Bruce Palmer briefly joined Crosby, Stills & Nash, but legal issues hindered his musical activities for the remainder of the 1960s.
