"Back on the Right Track" is the ninth album by Sly and the Family Stone, released in 1979. This album marked Sly Stone's return to recording after a period of drug addiction and riotous living that had left him homeless. It was also the first album produced by Stone to be released by Warner Bros. Records, which had employed him as a staff producer.
With the majority of the Family Stone no longer in the lineup, Sly collaborated with a variety of guest artists in this album. He primarily honed in on contributing artists such as Cynthia Robinson and Pat Rizzo from the original ensemble. Nevertheless, the turmoil leading up to this album had taken its toll; despite containing numerous tracks that harked back to the band's successful turn-of-the-1970s sound, the album failed to live up to commercial expectations.
The album's most successful song was "Remember Who You Are," which reached the top of the charts in the early part of 1980. Despite the album's lack of strong commercial success, it did receive more favorable reviews than his previous release, earning praise for its funk rhythms and the strength of its vocal performances.
