The Carpenters

"A Kind of Hush" is the seventh studio album released by the American pop duo, The Carpenters. This album was unveiled on June 11, 1976. The duo, consisting of the siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter, produced this album under A&M Records, following the success of their previous records. The album featured a mix of cover songs and original compositions. Songs in the album struck a balance between light pop, jazz, and ballads. It is recognized for the hit singles such as "There's a Kind of Hush" and "I Need to Be in Love." Despite its commercial success, "A Kind of Hush" received mixed reviews from critics and was considered a step back from the predecessors. Some critics believed that the Carpenter siblings were not exploiting their full potential, as they repeated the same formula that guaranteed them success in the past. Karen Carpenter's expressive and warm contralto vocals on this album are, however, widely appreciated. Richard Carpenter's composition and piano backing, Vinnie Colaiuta's drum sessions, and Joe Osborn's bass guitar have also received commendations. Since its release, "A Kind of Hush" has been made available in several formats, including LP, cassette, 8-track, open reel, and eventually compact disc in 1990. Even after more than four decades of its release, this album stands as a testament to The Carpenter's unique and timeless musical style.
