"Close to You" is the second studio album by the American music duo The Carpenters, released on August 19, 1970. The album includes the hit singles "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun." The title track was particularly successful, helping to establish The Carpenters as an international act.
In 2003, Close to You was ranked No. 175 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and it maintained this position in a revised 2012 list. The album topped the Canadian Albums Chart and reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200. It also enjoyed significant success in the United Kingdom, where it remained in the top 50 of the official chart for 76 weeks during the early 1970s.
The album and its singles earned The Carpenters eight Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. They won the awards for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus.
