Nina Hagen

"Nina Hagen in Ekstasy" is the third studio album by German singer Nina Hagen. It was released on January 10, 1985, by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Adam Kidron and was recorded in both English and German. The English version, "In Ekstase", was released in the US and the UK, while the German version was released in Germany. The album features a mixture of electronic music, punk, and rock, and is considered to be more commercial than her previous albums. It was also known for its controversial cover photo which was provocative and somewhat explicit, consistent with Hagen's reputation as a boundary-pushing artist. The album's most famous singles include "Universal Radio", which became a massive club hit, and "Spirit in the Sky". The record also features a cover of Paul Anka's "My Way", which was one of Hagen's biggest hits in her native Germany. Despite these high-impact songs, the ambitiousness of the album failed to translate into sales, and it did not chart as high as Hagen's previous efforts. "Nina Hagen in Ekstasy / In Ekstase" is seen as a crucial mark in Hagen’s evolution as an artist, renowned for her theatricality and unconventional style. Today, it is still celebrated as a cult classic and is critically acclaimed for its bold fusion of different musical styles.
