The Godfathers

"Alpha Beta Gamma Delta" is the ninth studio album by English rock band The Godfathers, released on September 16, 2022, through their own label, Godfathers Recordings. This album marks the first release by The Godfathers featuring the new lineup of singer and founding member Peter Coyne, alongside Jon Priestley (bass), Richie Simpson (guitar), Wayne Vermaak (guitar), and Billy Duncanson (drums). When Peter Coyne fired the entire previous lineup of The Godfathers in 2019, he quickly assembled a new band featuring bassist Jon Priestley, guitarists Richie Simpson and Wayne Vermaak, and drummer Billy Duncanson. This new lineup began touring and writing new material, leading to the release of the double A-side single "I'm Not Your Slave"/"Wild and Free" on June 17, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, the recording of the album was done in separate stages, with three or four songs being recorded at a time at Jon Priestley's Abatis Studios in Honiley, Warwickshire. This piecemeal approach resulted in delays, pushing the album's release by 18 months, according to Peter Coyne. Alpha Beta Gamma Delta was eventually released on September 16, 2022, through the band's own label, Godfathers Recordings. Ahead of the album, the four-track Midnight Rider EP was released on August 26, 2022, featuring the title track and "OCD" from the album, as well as the non-album tracks "When the Cowards Fall" and "Fade Away." On June 9, 2023, The Godfathers released the I Hate the 21st Century EP, which included the title track, "You Gotta Wait," and alternative acoustic versions of "Straight Down the Line" and "Tonight." In October 2023, an expanded 2-CD version of the album, Alpha Beta Gamma Delta Plus, was released. This edition includes the original album along with rare single and EP tracks, alternative acoustic versions of album tracks, and live recordings.
