The Fall

"Ersatz GB" is the 28th studio album by post-punk band The Fall, released on 14 November 2011 by Cherry Red Records. It marks the band's first album with the label and is notable for being the third consecutive album to feature the same lineup, a rarity for the group. The album was primarily recorded in London at Metropolis Studios, with some vocals recorded at Toe Rag Studios in Hackney. Despite initial recording sessions in Berlin, Mark E. Smith dismissed the recordings, focusing instead on the final product. The album features 10 tracks, with several previewed live before release. Smith described Ersatz GB as "a lot heavier" than its predecessors, and the band incorporated influences from rockabilly, krautrock, and artists like Captain Beefheart and the Velvet Underground. Key tracks include "Greenway," which references guitarist Peter Greenway, and "Nate Will Not Return," which includes references to Gossip Girl. Ersatz GB was released digitally, on CD, and as a limited-edition vinyl, and was preceded by the single "Laptop Dog" in November 2011.
