The Fall

"The Real New Fall LP" (Formerly Country on the Click) is the 23rd studio album by the Fall, released in 2003 by Action Records in the UK and later by Narnack Records in the US with a slightly altered track listing. The album was recorded at Lisa Stansfield's Gracieland Studios in Rochdale between December 2002 and January 2003, produced by Grant Showbiz. The subtitle refers to the fact that the tracks were initially set for release in April 2003 under the title Country on the Click. Promotional copies were sent out, and three new songs were previewed during the band's 23rd Peel Session, recorded on February 19 and broadcast on March 13, 2003. Frontman Mark E. Smith was dissatisfied with the mix, feeling it didn't capture the album's essence, which led him to request further revisions. He expressed frustration about trusting others with the mixing process, stating that the result sounded overly embellished and not true to the original vision. Due to an early mix appearing online, the album was renamed upon its eventual release to avoid confusion, though the original title is still visible on the CD spine. The album includes the track "Theme from Sparta F.C.," which became the theme music for the BBC's Final Score section in 2005 and was later used in other BBC programming. A version of this track was released as a single in the UK in July 2004, charting at 66 on the UK Singles Chart, and appears on the US version of the album. Additionally, a cover of Lee Hazlewood's "Houston" is featured on the album under the title "Loop 41 'Houston."
