Type O Negative

"October Rust" is the fourth studio album by Type O Negative, released in 1996. This album marks the first time Johnny Kelly is credited as the band's drummer, although the album primarily uses programmed drums. Notably, October Rust leans more towards ballads and deviates from the doom metal sound that characterized the band's previous and later works. It includes a cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl." The album introduces a "joke intro" with the track "Bad Ground," a 38-second piece of low-level buzzing designed to mimic a technical issue with audio equipment. Additionally, the album features humorous untitled spoken word intros and outros on tracks 2 and 15, respectively, where the band playfully downplays the album's recording. Production techniques on the album include abrupt song endings and segues, as heard on tracks like "Green Man," "Red Water," and "Haunted."
