Brian Eno

"Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)" is the second solo studio album by Brian Eno, released in November 1974 on Island Records. Unlike Eno's debut album, which featured a large ensemble, this album focused on a core band of five musicians: Eno on keyboards and guitar, Phil Manzanera on guitar, Brian Turrington on bass guitar, Freddie Smith on drums, and Robert Wyatt on percussion. Manzanera also contributed to the songwriting and production alongside Eno. The album's creative process was guided by Eno and Peter Schmidt's Oblique Strategies, a set of cards designed to prompt unconventional thinking and creativity. "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)" is known for its loose concept, touching on themes of geopolitical intrigue, espionage, and the Chinese Communist Revolution. Despite not charting in the UK or US upon release, it garnered positive reviews from critics and has since gained acclaim as a seminal work in Eno's discography and in the realm of experimental rock and art pop.
