Lene Lovich

"Shadows and Dust" is the fifth studio album by American singer Lene Lovich. It was released on October 13, 2005, almost 20 years after her previous album, "March." The album was independently released on The Stereo Society, a record label established by Lovich's longtime collaborator and life partner, Les Chappell. "Shadows and Dust" was received positively by critics who praised Lovich's unique voice and sound, demonstrating her talent remained unblemished despite the extended break between her albums. The album comprises of 11 tracks with a blend of rock, pop, and electronic, distinguishing Lovich's distinctive artistry. In terms of background, during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Lovich started slowly working on new music after a prolonged break from her music career to raise her family. It was her response to the 9/11 attacks that inspired the creation of the album, as she stated the emotional reaction to the events was the motivation behind writing again. The album delves quite deeply into her viewpoints on global issues and personal musings, contributing to the diverse style of the album. The album features two singles, "Shapeshifter" and "Ghost," which stand among several other standout tracks. After the release, Lovich embarked on a small promotional tour across Britain to promote the album, playing a mix of new songs and older hits.
