Lene Lovich

"March" is the fifth studio album by English-American singer-songwriter and musician, Lene Lovich, released in 1989. The album backs off considerably from the frenetic style that marked most of the singer's previous work, which had been categorized under the genre of New Wave. Lene Lovich, who had found success in the late 70s and early 80s with hits like "Lucky Number," made a comeback with "March," after taking a hiatus from the music industry to raise her family. The album marks a shift to a more mature sound and presents a diverse array of tracks, both in tempo and theme. Interestingly, the album was recorded in Lovich's home studio, The Stateless Society. Within its tracks, there is a recurrence of strong topics reflecting her personal life, such as themes of self-awareness and parenthood, mirroring her own experiences during her time away from the music scene. The album was well-received, with notable tracks including "Wonderland" and "Hold On to Love." Despite it not achieving the commercial success of her earlier releases, "March" is often recognized for showcasing a more refined sound from Lovich, portraying her growth as an artist during her musical hiatus.
