A Certain Ratio

"Up in Downsville" is the eighth studio album by A Certain Ratio, released on 26 October 1992. While Good Together showcased the band’s take on acid house through traditional songwriting, Up In Downsville marks a vibrant return to the dance floor. Released on Rob Gretton’s label, this album weaves together melodic house, sleek acid jazz, and moody electro-funk, merging the diverse sounds of Manchester's club scene into an irresistible collection. The rhythmic foundation remains strong throughout, peaking on the closing track Up In Downsville Pt.2, a flute-driven gem of Mancunian funk that beautifully contrasts with the timeless Balearic hit Salvador’s (Fish), which stands out as the album’s highlight.
