The Damned

"Grave Disorder" is the ninth studio album by the punk rock band The Damned, released on 21 August 2001. This album marked a significant moment for the band as it was their first release with Nitro Records. It is also notable for being the only studio album to feature Patricia Morrison, who played bass and contributed to the band's sound during this period. Grave Disorder showcases The Damned's continued evolution in punk rock and was received as a noteworthy addition to their discography. The album shares musical similarities with Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible's previous collaboration with The Damned, Strawberries. It features a mix of modern sampling and looping on tracks like "Absinthe," gothic rock elements in songs such as "Thrill Kill," and punk rock influences in "Neverland," "Obscene," and "Amen." Additionally, it includes deep gothic piano pieces like "Beauty of the Beast" and "The End of Time," alongside more traditional pop songs. The track "Lookin' for Action" was featured on the Warped Tour 2002 Compilation. Songs such as "W," which addresses the 2000 election and George W. Bush, reflect a Britpop sound similar to that found on Strawberries. The song "song.com" provides a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the Internet, while "Democracy?" critiques what the band perceives as the futility of democracy and political revolution. The album's title is derived from a parliamentary convention in the United Kingdom, where a sitting may be adjourned if 'grave disorder' occurs among members.
