"Strawberries" is the fifth studio album by the English punk rock band the Damned, released in October 1982 under the record label Bronze. The album enjoyed notable success, reaching No. 15 on the Official UK Album chart.
At the time of its release, the Damned were experiencing increased public attention, largely due to the solo success of Captain Sensible, a key member of the band. Sensible took on lead vocal duties for tracks like "Life Goes On" and "Don't Bother Me" on "Strawberries." He also expanded the band's sound by introducing new instruments such as the sitar, and featured cello played by his then-girlfriend, Rachael Bor, from the pop group Dolly Mixture.
Notably, limited editions of the album included a strawberry-scented lyric insert, adding a playful and unique element to its physical release.
"Strawberries" marked a period of experimentation and creativity for the Damned, blending punk rock energy with eclectic instrumentation and showcasing Captain Sensible's versatility as a musician and vocalist. The album remains a significant entry in their discography, reflecting both their musical evolution and their influence within the punk rock scene of the early 1980s.
