"HanDover" is the eleventh studio album by Canadian band Skinny Puppy. After their 2007 album Mythmaker and its tour, the band began working on new material in 2008, focusing on noise music similar to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. This new album was initially intended to be "handed over" to their Hannover label for a 2009 international tour. However, complications arose when their label, SPV GmbH, faced insolvency, leaving the album's future uncertain. Despite this, the band proceeded with the tour, named In Solvent See to reflect SPV's issues. Ogre mentioned that the "handing over" of albums inspired the album's title.
While some material intended for the noise album transformed into the songs "Brownstone" and "Noisex," Mark Walk and Ogre developed their noise concepts further for the unDeveloped album by ohGr. In early 2011, the death of Sasha Coon, a former live crew member and friend, inspired the song "Ashas," dedicated to his memory.
In May 2011, Skinny Puppy announced the completion of their new album and began seeking record labels for a September 2011 release. The album was eventually confirmed for release on October 25, 2011, in the United States and on October 28, 2011, in Europe.
