John Lennon

"Walls and Bridges" is the fifth solo studio album by John Lennon, released by Apple Records on September 26, 1974, in the United States and October 4 in the UK. Created during his 18-month separation from Yoko Ono, the album reflects Lennon’s experiences during his "Lost Weekend." It achieved significant commercial success, reaching number one on both the Billboard and Record World charts, and includes two hit singles: "Whatever Gets You thru the Night," which became Lennon's first solo number-one hit in the US, and "#9 Dream." The album was certified silver in the UK and gold in the US. In June 1973, as John Lennon was preparing to record "Mind Games," Yoko Ono suggested they separate. Encouraged by her, Lennon moved to California with their personal assistant, May Pang, embarking on an 18-month relationship he later dubbed his "Lost Weekend." While in Los Angeles, he reconnected with his son Julian, whom he hadn't seen in two years. Initially, Lennon planned to record an album of rock 'n' roll oldies with producer Phil Spector, but the sessions became infamous for their alcohol-fueled chaos rather than the music produced. After returning to New York, Lennon found that Spector had disappeared with the session tapes. During this period, he wrote several new songs while staying at The Pierre and began recording home demos.
