"Bright Red" is the fifth studio album by American avant-garde musician Laurie Anderson, released by Warner Bros. in 1994. The album follows the more pop-oriented direction Anderson established with Strange Angels. Produced by Brian Eno, who co-wrote several songs with Anderson, Bright Red is divided into two parts: "Bright Red" and "Tightrope."
The song "The Puppet Motel" is featured on an interactive CD-ROM titled Puppet Motel, also released in 1994. "Speak My Language" is a re-recording of a track Anderson performed for the soundtrack of the 1993 film Faraway, So Close, and it appears in the 1995 film Fallen Angels. "Beautiful Pea Green Boat" includes additional lyrics from Edward Lear's poem "The Owl and the Pussycat," although Lear's name is misspelled as "Edwin" in the liner notes. The album's single, "In Our Sleep," features a duet with Lou Reed, who also provides backup vocals on several other tracks. Reed and Anderson later married.
