The Beautiful South

"Quench" is the sixth studio album by The Beautiful South, an English pop rock group. The album was released by Go! Discs Ltd. in the United Kingdom on October 12, 1998. It became one of their most successful albums, charting at number one on the UK Albums Chart and certified 2x Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales over 600,000 copies. In terms of the musical style of "Quench", it continues the band's signature blend of pop and rock with a distinctly melodic approach, laced with often satirical and bittersweet lyrics. It contains a few of their most popular songs, including the hit singles "Perfect 10", "Dumb" and "How Long's a Tear Take to Dry?". Despite the success, the album's reception was mixed among critics. Some praised its catchy tunes and witty lyrics, while others felt it lacked originality. Regardless, "Quench" remains a significant part of The Beautiful South's discography and further cemented their place in British pop music history. The Beautiful South was formed in 1988 by Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, two former members of the band The Housemartins. Apart from Heaton and Hemingway, the line-up of the band during the release of "Quench" included Dave Stead, Sean Welch, and Jacqueline Abbott.
