Billy Idol

"Billy Idol" is the debut studio album by English rock singer Billy Idol, released on July 16, 1982, by Chrysalis Records. Following the breakup of his previous band, Generation X, and the release of his first solo extended play *Don't Stop* in 1981, Idol began work on this album. Produced by Keith Forsey, the album features a rock sound heavily influenced by new wave music. Upon its release, the album received generally favorable reviews from critics and achieved commercial success, peaking at number forty-five on the Billboard 200. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album spawned three singles: "Dancing with Myself," which had been released in 1981 as Idol's debut single, "Hot in the City," and "White Wedding." "Hot in the City" was originally intended for Idol's debut EP *Don't Stop* but was retained for the album as Chrysalis Records believed it had strong single potential. "Hot in the City" peaked at number twenty-three on the Billboard Hot 100. "White Wedding," the album's second single, reached number three on the Mainstream Rock chart in 1983. The album was reissued with the addition of "Dancing with Myself" following the success of "White Wedding." The track "White Wedding (Part 1)" refers to the more well-known version of the song, while "White Wedding (Part 2)" is a synthesizer-based continuation found on the 12-inch single and the compilation *Vital Idol* (1985).
