The Waterboys

"A Pagan Place" is the second studio album by The Waterboys, released by Ensign Records in May 1984. This album marks the first appearance of Karl Wallinger as part of the band and features Roddy Lorimer's debut trumpet solo on the title track, "A Pagan Place." The album's title was inspired by the book "A Pagan Place" by Irish novelist Edna O'Brien. Interestingly, Mike Scott, the band's frontman who chose the album's name, has admitted that he has never read the book, and there are no other connections between the album and the novel. "A Pagan Place" is known for its rich, anthemic sound and lyrical depth, which helped to further establish The Waterboys' distinctive style in the rock and folk music scenes of the 1980s.
