Tom Tom Club

"Boom Boom Chi Boom Boom" is an album from the American new wave band Tom Tom Club, which was released in 1988. This was the group's fourth studio album and was first released in the UK and Germany by the Fontana Records label. The North American release occurred the following year in 1989, under the Sire Records label. Tom Tom Club is known for its unique mixture of musical elements such as funk, pop, hip hop, and world music. The band was formed by husband and wife duo Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, both members of the new wave band "Talking Heads". The album’s opening track 'Call of the Wild' reached no. 31 in the UK Singles Chart, while 'Suboceana' reached no. 69. Rolling Stone magazine described "Suboceana" as a song that "flows and burbles along with polyrhythmic panache". Overall, "Boom Boom Chi Boom Boom" features a more alternative rock sound compared to the more dance-oriented direction of their previous albums. Notably, the album title is derived from the band's use of the phrase as a place holder for lyrics that were written later.
