Thompson Twins

"Big Trash" is the seventh studio album by the British pop group Thompson Twins, released in 1989 through Warner Brothers/Red Eye. Produced by Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie, with two tracks handled by Steve Lillywhite, the album spawned two singles. "Sugar Daddy" peaked at No. 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 97 in the UK, while "Bombers in the Sky" did not achieve commercial success. The album itself reached No. 163 on the Billboard 200. "Big Trash" marked the Thompson Twins' first release with Warner Brothers. Alannah Currie noted that the label provided them with a significant budget, allowing them to create the album they truly wanted, which she described as a dream for any musician. The album features a contribution from Blondie singer Deborah Harry, who provided spoken-word vocals for "Queen of the U.S.A." This was recorded via a transatlantic phone connection. Reflecting on the "Big Trash" era, Tom Bailey mentioned in a 2014 interview that it was an exciting time filled with experimentation and new ideas, emphasizing their focus on a studio-oriented approach.
