Jesus Jones

"Doubt" is the second studio album by the British alternative rock band, Jesus Jones. Released in January 1991, it is their most commercially successful and widely recognized album, and is often considered their definitive work. Containing a fusion of pop, techno, and indie rock, the album challenged the traditional rock music aesthetic, representing a significant departure from the band's previous sound. "Doubt" features two of Jesus Jones's biggest hits—"Right Here, Right Now" and "International Bright Young Thing"—which both charted globally. "Right Here, Right Now" was particularly successful, garnering significant radio play and even receiving an MTV Video Music Award. As for the background, the album was largely born out of the sociopolitical changes happening at the end of the 1980s and early 1990s, like the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, events from which lead vocalist Mike Edwards drew significant inspiration. "Doubt" encapsulates the band's optimistic outlook on these world events, delivering a message of hope and positivity in uncertain times. "Doubt" was a worldwide success, reaching number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and number 25 on the US Billboard 200. Its success solidified Jesus Jones's place in the early 90s music scene and cemented their role in the emergence of the alternative dance genre. Even 30 years later, it continues to be celebrated for its unique sound and relevant themes.
