Talking Heads

"True Stories" is the seventh studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on September 15, 1986, by Sire Records. The album is closely associated with lead singer David Byrne's film of the same name, which was also released in 1986. The project serves as a soundtrack to the film, reflecting its themes and style. Musically, True Stories features a blend of rock, pop, and funk, with a focus on the quirky and satirical elements that characterized the film. The album includes tracks such as "Wild Wild Life" and "Love for Sale," which showcase the band's signature eclecticism and Byrne's distinctive lyrical approach. The film True Stories explores the eccentricities of small-town America, and the album complements this with its offbeat and reflective songs. Both the album and the film highlight Talking Heads' innovative approach to music and multimedia storytelling. True Stories is the seventh studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on September 15, 1986, by Sire Records. It serves as the soundtrack to David Byrne's film True Stories, which explores the quirky aspects of small-town life in America. The album features only the studio recordings by Talking Heads, with the original cast performances planned but not initially released. These performances later appeared in a complete film soundtrack album released in 2018, which combined cast recordings with tracks from the original and Byrne's Sounds from True Stories album. The album's standout single, "Wild Wild Life," became a significant hit and was notable for its music video, which won two MTV Video Music Awards in 1987 for "Best Group Video" and "Best Video from a Film." The video was an extended sequence from the film. Another single, "Love for Sale," also had a video, which was included in the film and released as an extended version later. In 2006, True Stories was re-released and remastered in DualDisc format by Warner Music Group, with additional bonus tracks including extended mixes and live performances. This edition also featured both stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes and the videos for "Wild Wild Life" and "Love for Sale." The reissue, produced by Andy Zax with the band, was available in Europe as a CD+DVDA two-disc set.
