"Happy?" is the seventh studio album by Public Image Ltd (PiL), a British post-punk band led by former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon. The album was released on September 14, 1987, under the Virgin Records label. Structured with a traditional rock setup with strong pop overtones, "Happy?" marked a departure from the group's unconventional music styles previously associated with their work. The album's sound leaned towards more upbeat and accessible elements, blending elements of pop, rock, and even ska. The album includes nine tracks, featuring the singles "Seattle" and "The Body". "Happy?" received mixed reviews from critics, and the album made it into the UK Top 40 Album charts, hitting number 40. Despite this, the singles were relatively successful in the charts, with "Seattle" peaking at number 47 in the UK Singles charts, and "The Body", hitting number 100. This album captures a period of transition and experimentation for PiL, showcasing their ability to blend and transcends various genres to create their distinct sound. However, it's also been noted as a point of contention among fans related to its shift toward a more conventional rock-pop sound compared to their earlier, more experimental work.
