Love and Rockets

"Lift" is the seventh and final studio album by the English alternative rock band Love and Rockets, released in 1998 on Red Ant Records. The album marked a shift from the harder rock sound of their previous release, Sweet F.A., toward the more electronic influences seen in Hot Trip to Heaven. "Lift" produced three singles: "Resurrection Hex," a club-oriented track that features samples from Bauhaus' "Stigmata Martyr," "Holy Fool," which includes background vocals by Jill Cunniff of Luscious Jackson, and the promo-only electronic track "R.I.P. 20 C." The title and sound of "Resurrection Hex" sparked rumors of a Bauhaus reunion, which was confirmed shortly after the album's release. However, the bankruptcy of Red Ant Records—home to both Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy—coupled with the success of the Bauhaus Resurrection tour, ultimately led to the dissolution of Love and Rockets as a band.
