Strut is Lenny Kravitz's first album released under his own label, Roxie Records, named in honor of his mother, actress Roxie Roker. In an interview, Kravitz explained that the title reflects themes of pride and confidence in one's identity, emphasizing that everyone is unique and that embracing individuality is beautiful. He described the music as a blend of love, relationships, grit, glamour, and sensuality. Kravitz wrote all the tracks except for a cover of "Ooo Baby Baby," originally by Smokey Robinson and Warren "Pete" Moore. He decided to include the cover after hearing it while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, where he played Cinna. The lead single, "The Chamber," was released on June 24, 2014, and features a video set in Paris, highlighting Kravitz's connection to the city, where he has lived for several years. In recognition of his contributions to culture, he was awarded France's Order of Arts and Letters in 2011.
