Cyndi Lauper

"Bring Ya to the Brink" stands out as Cyndi Lauper's tenth studio album, introduced to the world in May 2008 after its initial release in Japan. This collection of dance-infused tracks features collaborations with esteemed artists like Basement Jaxx, Richard Morel, Max Martin, and Kleerup, among others. Notably, the album earned recognition from the Songwriters Hall of Fame for its track "High and Mighty," which was hailed as one of Lauper's seminal works. Its innovative sound garnered a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The album's promotional singles, "Set Your Heart" and "Same Ol' Story," preceded the release of "Into the Nightlife," which followed as the second official single. This record holds significance as Lauper's final original material under Epic Records, her label since her breakthrough debut album "She's So Unusual" in 1983. Although "Bring Ya to the Brink" entered the Billboard 200 at #41 with 12,000 copies sold, it represents a departure from her earlier pop-rock sound. In a further nod to its impact, a remix album titled "Floor Remixes" emerged in Japan, featuring a CD-only edition and a limited edition with an accompanying DVD. The remix album reached #102 on the Oricon charts. As part of promotional efforts, a mashup of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Set Your Heart" was crafted by Richard Morel, highlighting the album's enduring influence and Lauper's ongoing evolution as an artist.
