"Kollaps" is the debut studio album by the German experimental music group Einstürzende Neubauten, released on October 5, 1981. The album showcases the band's distinctive industrial sound, characterized by the use of unconventional instruments and innovative production techniques.
The original LP was released in two different pressings: one by Rip Off Vertrieb and the other by EfA. The first pressing from Rip Off Vertrieb included a 16-page black-and-white booklet containing a discography, lyrics, and photographs. The back cover art pays homage to Pink Floyd's Ummagumma. In 2002, Kollaps was reissued by Potomak in a digipack format, which included previously unreleased steel dub versions that had only been available on cassette in 1982.
Kollaps was met with critical acclaim and is considered a landmark in the industrial music genre. The album's raw, avant-garde style and provocative themes marked a significant departure from conventional music of the time, helping to establish Einstürzende Neubauten as pioneers of the genre.
The track "Jet'M" is a cover of the famous chanson "Je t'aime… moi non plus" by Serge Gainsbourg, further demonstrating the band's eclectic influences.
Kollaps remains an influential work, encapsulating the experimental ethos of the early 1980s and laying the groundwork for future explorations in industrial and avant-garde music.
