Culture Club

"Waking Up with the House on Fire" is the third studio album from British pop group Culture Club, released on 25 October 1984. The album spawned the hit singles "The War Song," "The Medal Song," "Mistake No.3" and "Love is Love." The genre of the album is a blend of pop, rock, new wave, and blue-eyed soul. The album reached No.2 in the UK Albums Chart, becoming the group's third top five album. In the United States, it reached No.26 in the Billboard 200. However, despite its commercial success, the album received a somewhat lukewarm reception from critics compared to their previous work. With its provocative title, "Waking Up with the House on Fire" continues the group's exploration of love, war, and societal issues, displaying a variety of influences from reggae to Motown. The album signified a point of tension in the band's career, with personal pressures and a demanding tour schedule leading to the eventual temporary split of the band in 1986. It was later followed by the album "From Luxury to Heartache" in 1986. Overall, despite some criticism, the album showcases the band's versatility and unique approach to music during the height of their fame in the 1980s.
