"S&M2" (stylized as S&M2, which stands for Symphony and Metallica 2) is a live album by American thrash metal band Metallica, in collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony. It serves as a follow-up to their 1999 live album S&M.
The album was recorded during a performance at the Chase Center in San Francisco in 2019. The event was also filmed and released theatrically on October 9, 2019. The recording captures Metallica's powerful fusion of metal and symphonic music, continuing the collaboration that was first explored in their earlier S&M project.
The film of S&M2 was released in theaters on October 9, 2019. It grossed over $1.2 million at the North American box office and $5.5 million internationally, making it the highest-grossing rock cinema event ever. Due to its success, the film was shown in theaters again on October 30, 2019.
The live album associated with the event was released on August 28, 2020. The Blu-ray version of the album included a new, revised cut of the film edited by the band, featuring remixed and remastered audio along with behind-the-scenes footage.
