Manfred Mann

"Mighty Garvey!" is the fifth and final album by Manfred Mann's eponymous band, released in 1968. The band, a British beat, rhythm and blues, and pop group was named after their South African keyboard player, Manfred Mann. It is noted that this album has a distinctive experimental and eclectic style, unlike their previous ones which were more focused on R&B or pop. While "Mighty Garvey!" may not be the band’s most commercially successful album, it is often rated by critics as among their best due to its sonic diversity. The album's tracks span several musical genres including pop, jazz, and R&B, and the lyrics often carry a sociopolitical message, reflecting the turbulent times in which the album was created. "Mighty Garvey!" is perhaps best known for its track "My Name is Jack", which became a Top 10 hit in the UK. Other standout songs on the album include "The Vicar’s Daughter", "Harry the One-Man Band", and "Happy Families". The music of "Mighty Garvey!" combines studio innovation and excellent musicianship, making it a gem in Manfred Mann’s discography.
