Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

"The Punishment of Luxury" is the thirteenth studio album by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), marking their third album since reformation in 2006. Released on 1 September 2017 by 100% Records in the UK and White Noise elsewhere, the album was produced by OMD themselves. In support of the record, the band embarked on a tour of North America and Europe starting in July of the same year. Thematically, "The Punishment of Luxury" delves into issues of consumerism and First World problems. The album garnered favorable reviews and was noted as one of the best and most underrated albums of 2017. It debuted strongly, reaching number four on the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 9,894 copies. This marked OMD's return to the top 10 in their home country since their 1991 album "Sugar Tax". Additionally, the album topped the UK Independent Albums Chart and achieved top 10 positions on various European charts. In the United States, it also performed well, reaching the top 10 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums and Independent Albums charts.
