Mercury Rev

"All Is Dream" is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Mercury Rev, released in 2001. The album continues the band's signature neo-psychedelic sound with a softer musical approach, emphasized on symphonic orchestration and dreamy textures. Following the success of their previous album "Deserter's Songs," the band returned with this offering that showcased their ability to fuse the strains of orchestral pop, 1960s rock, and modern experimental tendencies. Produced by Dave Fridmann and the band self, "All is Dream" was received incredibly well by critics, praised for its sweeping, cinematic soundscapes. Lead singer Jonathan Donahue's distinctive and emotive voice again took center stage amid a sea of lush instrumentation. The album features the singles "Nite and Fog," "A Drop in Time," and "The Dark is Rising," the last of which peaked at number 16 in the UK Singles Chart. Despite a change in line-up during the album's creation, Mercury Rev delivered an ethereal piece of work that expanded their sound and won them new fans. The band upon release of the album toured extensively, providing a full live experience to their intricate sound. While containing pop and rock influences, the album also incorporates elements of smooth jazz and country that diversify the texture of the music and contribute to its dreamy atmosphere. "All is Dream" is considered a high point in Mercury Rev's career, combining their experimental tendencies with a greater accessibility.
