Nektar

"Magic Is a Child" is the seventh album by the English progressive rock band Nektar. It was initially released in 1977 by Ariola Records. The album showcases a shift from the band's traditional progressive rock style to a more structured and lighter tone, featuring concise and melodic songs. Significantly, this album featured the addition of the new Nektar member, Dave Nelson, who replaced Roye Albrighton on guitar and vocals. Nelson incidentally was only 19 at the time and had coincidentally been a Nektar fan himself before joining the band. His young age coupled with a new approach to songwriting and melody were probably what influenced the distinct difference from the heavier, lengthy composed anthems of previous material. The album includes 9 tracks, each contributing to the diversity and creativity exhibited by the band. Of the lot, the title track "Magic Is a Child" and "Train from Nowhere" received notable recognition. The album's cover art was also notable, featuring an image by famed artist, designer, and astrophysicist, Andreas Nottebohm. Critics had varying opinions regarding the album, though its lighter, more melodic approach did appeal to a broader audience.
