The Mission

"Grains of Sand" is a compilation album by the gothic rock band The Mission, released in October 1990. It features a collection of tracks that were originally recorded during the sessions for their previous album, "Carved in Sand," but did not make it onto that release. The album also includes acoustic versions of some previously released songs and the single "Hands Across the Ocean," which was co-produced by Andy Partridge. The compilation serves as a complement to "Carved in Sand," showcasing additional material and alternative versions of songs from the band's catalog. It provides fans with a deeper look into the creative process and diversity of The Mission's music during this period. In 2008, "Grains of Sand" was expanded with additional material from the "Metal Guru's" sessions and included as part of a two-disc reissue of "Carved in Sand," providing a comprehensive retrospective of the band's work from that era.
