"The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale" is Prince's twenty-second studio album, released on August 24, 1999, by Warner Bros. Records. It was a significant release in that it was the last album Prince delivered to Warner Bros. to fulfill his 1992 contract obligations. Although the album was completed in 1996, it wasn't released until 1999, a few months before his Arista album Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic.
The album features recordings from 1985 to 1996 and was submitted alongside Chaos and Disorder. Fans have noted that the final versions of the tracks seem overworked and less impactful compared to the original versions available on bootlegs, particularly with the title track "Old Friends 4 Sale." Promotion for the album was minimal in both the U.S. and the U.K., and it didn't receive much attention at the time. The track "Extraordinary" was one of the few songs from the album that saw live performance, featured occasionally during Prince's 2002 One Nite Alone... Tour.
